Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team continued conference play on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 shutout victory over the University of the District of Columbia at Spartan Field, with a goal in the first half and two in the second stanza.
STAC improves to 3-2-2 overall and 2-0-0 in ECC play, while UDC slips to 3-2-1 and 0-1-1.
The Spartans received scoring from Joaquim Cardoso, Jorge De La Vibora and Kevon Evans, while goalkeeper Dante Muntane (W, 3-2-2) got the start for the maroon and gold and made four saves to earn his third shutout.
For the visiting Firebirds, keeper Sergio Becerra (L, 3-2-1) stopped 5 of 8 shots faced in a losing effort.
HOW IT HAPPENED
7th Minute: A corner kick by Mika Leue was floated to the head of teammate Joaquim Cardoso for the redirection past a diving Sergio Becerra and to the back of the net to give STAC a 1-0 lead.
61st Minute: An offensive rush upfield by the Spartans saw Mika Leue and Eitan Zeitoune dance around several Firebirds defenders to find Jorge De La Vibora for the blast past Becerra, doubling the maroon and gold advantage at 2-0.
69th Minute: Kevon Evans sealed the deal for STAC minutes later, as he was awarded a penalty kick after being tripped up in the box by a UDC player. Evans made the most of his opportunity, going top shelf to make it 3-0.
