Strong Team Effort Propels STAC to Sweep of D'Youville

Sparkill, N.Y. - Despite the bone-chilling cold temperatures and threat of heavy snowfall outside, the St. Thomas Aquinas Men's Volleyball team brought the heat to the court at the Spartan Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon, and quickly dispatched visiting D'Youville University in a three-set sweep in Rockland County.

STAC moves to 2-5 on the season, while D'Youville falls to 0-4.

How it Happened

  • As a team, St. Thomas Aquinas recorded 36 kills compared to D'Youville's 27. The Spartans also had 10.5 blocks and 34 assists, while the Saints tallied 6 blocks and 27 assists.
  • STAC outhit D'Youville by a .241 to .089 margin for the match.
  • Kyran Versteegen paced the Spartans offense with a match-high seven kills. Versteegen also registered a serve assist, two service aces, six digs, a solo block and two block assists.
  • Marcus Franck tallied a match-high 30 serve assists (10.0 assists/set). He also accumulated two kills, two service aces, two digs and a block assist for the maroon and gold. In addition, Frank eclipsed the 100-ace mark for his career, with 71 aces at Central State University and 30 to date as a member of the Spartans.
  • Jakob Schwarz picked up seven kills, four digs and two block assists on Saturday.
  • David Weiss racked up seven kills, a service ace, a dig, a solo block and three block assists against the Saints.
  • Gustavo Reinert contributed six kills, two service aces, six digs and a block assist.
  • Luis Grath accumulated four kills, a serve assist, two solo blocks and three block assists in the match.
  • Alan Santiago put together a three kill, one serve assist, one service ace, three dig and one block assist effort for the hosts.
