Daemen Tops Men’s Volleyball, 3-1 to Close Western New York Road Trip

Amherst, N.Y. - Closing out their two-match Western New York road trip, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Volleyball team paid a visit to Lumsden Gymnasium on Saturday for a non-conference matchup with Daemen University.

Despite the Spartans being able to rally in the second set to even the match at 1-1, the host Wildcats narrowly took sets three and four to win 3-1.

STAC falls to 4-9 on the year, while Daemen moves to 6-7.

How it Happened

  • As a team, St. Thomas Aquinas recorded 53 kills compared to Daemen's 51. The Spartans also had 6.5 blocks and 47 assists, while the Wildcats tallied 9.5 blocks and 45 assists.
  • Daemen outhit STAC by a .282 to .256 margin for the match.
  • Kyran Versteegen paced the Spartans offense with a match-high 19 kills. He also registered three serve assists, six digs and five block assists.
  • Marcus Franck tallied a team-high 32 serve assists (8.0 assists/set). Franck also accumulated two kills and nine digs for the maroon and gold.
  • Jakob Schwarz picked up 14 kills, a serve assist, five service aces and eight digs on Saturday afternoon.
  • Luis Grath racked up seven kills, a serve assist, two digs and three block assists against the Wildcats.
  • David Weiss contributed five kills, two service aces, four digs and three block assists to the match.
  • Alan Santiago accumulated four kills, a service ace, eight digs and a block assist.
  • Ivaylo Todorov put together a seven serve assist, and five dig effort for the Spartans.
