Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Volleyball team opened their 2025 home schedule at the new Spartan Athletic Complex on Friday morning, downing Barry University in a four set matchup, 3-1.
STAC earns its first win of the campaign and moves to 1-2, while Barry falls to 3-3 in the midst of playing four matches over three days in the New York City metropolitan area.
The Spartans jumped all over the Buccaneers early, taking the first two sets, before the visitors from Miami Shores rallied to clinch the third set. A see-saw fourth set ultimately fell into the hands of the maroon and gold to clinch the overall team victory.

How it Happened
- As a team, STAC recorded 47 kills compared to Barry's 37. The Spartans also had 12 blocks and 44 assists, while the Bucs tallied 14 blocks and 34 assists.
- St. Thomas Aquinas College outhit Barry University by a .217 to .111 margin for the match.
- Gabriel Vieira paced the Spartans offense with a match-high 18 kills. He also had two service aces, six digs and a pair of block assists.
- Marcus Franck tallied 34 serve assists (8.5 assists/set). Franck also accumulated two service aces, eight digs and a block assist for the maroon and gold.
- Andre Cippiciani recorded four kills, an assist, three digs and a block assist on the day.
- David Weiss put together a two kill, one assist, one solo block and seven block assist effort against the Buccaneers.
- Kyran Versteegen registered 17 kills, one assist, two service aces, nine digs and four block assists in his third match of the season for the Spartans.
- Freshman Ivaylo Todorov (Aktau Kazakhstan) kept the ball off of the floor for STAC on Friday morning/afternoon, collecting a match-high 11 digs. Todorov also picked up a kill and an assist over four sets.
