Ilekhuoba Nets Two Goals in STAC's 3-3 Stalemate with No. 18 East Stroudsburg

Sparkill, N.Y. - Taking on yet another nationally ranked squad, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team squared off with No. 18 East Stroudsburg University on Wednesday afternoon at Spartan Field.

Two goals by Uhunoma Fredrick-Ilekhuoba and another by the team's leading scorer Kevon Evans helped secure a 3-3 draw with the Warriors.

STAC moves to 1-2-2 on the season, while ESU goes to 3-1-1 on the year.

Owen Rennie, Darryl Longdon and Jace Seara each tallied goals for East Stroudsburg, as goalkeeper Kevin Kretschman (T, 3-1-1) stopped 2 of 5 shots faced for the visitors.

Meanwhile, keeper Dante Muntane (T, 1-2-2) made six stops on nine shots for St. Thomas Aquinas.

HOW IT HAPPENED

11th Minute: Kevon Evans scored a highlight reel goal by dribbling around several Warriors defenders on the goal line and depositing a rising shot just under the crossbar, beating Kevin Kretschman to make it 1-0 STAC.

17th Minute: ESU knotted things at 1-1 when Ethan Flickinger headed down a ball to the foot of teammate Owen Rennie for a shot that deflected off of the foot of a Spartans defender and rolled past Dante Muntane to the back of the net.

22nd Minute: Mika Leue's corner kick found the head of Uhunoma Fredrick-Ilekhuoba as he was diving to the front of the net, beating Kretschman to give the Spartans back the lead at 2-1.

44th Minute: Darryl Longdon converted his penalty kick opportunity into a goal, when he was taken down by a Spartans defender late in the first half to square things at 2-2.

58th Minute: A STAC turnover was quickly deposited to the back of the onion bag by Jace Seara to give East Stroudsburg its first lead of the afternoon at 3-2.

81st Minute: In a wild scene, a free kick for the Spartans reached the box with a mass of players from both sides jockeying for position. The ball found the foot of Nicolas Pavlou who deflected it to Uhunoma Fredrick-Ilekhuoba for a shot that looked to hit both the underside of the crossbar and enter the net. After some deliberation between the center referee and assistant referee on the near sideline, the goal was awarded, sending the Spartan Field faithful and STAC players into a joyous celebration.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • ESU earned a slim 4-3 advantage on corner kicks over STAC.
