Sparkill, N.Y- The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball team saw six of its players score in double figures in a 93-77 rout of the University of the District of Columbia on Saturday afternoon at Aquinas Hall Gymnasium.
STAC moves to 8-10 overall and 5-2 in ECC action, while UDC slips to 2-13 and 1-6.
Joshua Michigan led the way for the Spartans with a game-high 18 points, as teammates Derrick James (14 points), Starrell Hearns (13 points), Michael Parrotta (12 points), Brennan Chatman (11 points) and Jordan Green (10 points) also scored in double-digits. Meanwhile, Michael Harrell paced the visiting Firebirds with a team-high 17 points.
STAC shot 55.2 percent (37-67) from the field, while District of Columbia shot 54.4 percent (31-57) from the floor and 81.8 percent (9-11) from the charity stripe.
STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Eight Spartans logged double-digit minutes in the contest.
- Derrick James led the maroon and gold with ten assists on the day.
- Joshua Michigan hit 6 of his 10 field goal attempts, with 2-of-2 shots falling from long range. He also went 4-of-4 from the foul line. Meanwhile, Derrick James went 6-for-11 from the floor and 2-of-3 from downtown.
- UDC out-rebounded STAC by a 31-28 count, with Starrell Hearns grabbing a team-high seven boards for the Spartans.
- St. Thomas Aquinas swiped eight steals, with the Firebirds turning the ball over on 19 separate occasions.
- The Spartans earned advantages in three team statistical categories over District of Columbia: Points off Turnovers (30-11), Second Chance Points (8-4) and Fastbreak Points (20-9).
- The game featured one tie and one lead change.
- STAC's largest lead of the game came with just under 15 and a half minutes to play in the second half of Saturday's contest, when the Spartans led by 21 points, 66-45, on a Joshua Michigan layup.
- St. Thomas Aquinas led District of Columbia, 52-39 going into the halftime locker room, with the maroon and gold shooting 59.5 percent (22-37) from the field and 50.0 percent (7-14) from the three-point line.
- Derrick James led all scorers with 10 first half points for the Spartans, while shooting 66.7 percent (4-of-6) from the floor and 100.0 percent (2-of-2) from beyond the arc.
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Nine Firebirds logged double-digit minutes in the contest.
- Michael Harrell led District of Columbia with 17 points, while Arthur Roache (14 points) also scored in double figures.
- Roache also led District of Columbia with four assists on the afternoon.
- Harrell went 8-for-12 from the floor. Meanwhile, Roache went 5-for-8 from the field, 2-of-3 from three and 2-for-2 from the charity stripe.
- Oliver Spence grabbed a game-high nine boards for the Firebirds.
- District of Columbia picked up six steals, with the Spartans turning the ball over on nine separate occasions.
- The Firebirds earned one advantage in the team statistical categories over St. Thomas Aquinas: Points in the Paint (46-42).
- Michael Harrell led all Firebirds' scorers with seven first half points, while shooting 75.0 percent (3-of-4) from the field and 50.0 percent (1-of-2) from beyond the arc.
