Palm Beach, Fla. - St. Thomas Aquinas golfer Nolan Skaggs shot a 72 in his opening round of the 2025 NCAA Division II National Championship at the PGA National Resort in the Sunshine State. Skaggs shot one over on the front nine and one under on the back nine to put himself at even par for the day and tied for 20th place.
After shooting par on his first five holes to start the tournament, Skaggs alternated a bogey and a birdie on holes six and seven, while paring on eight and going one over on nine to put himself at +1. The senior from Plymouth, Mass. maintained his 1-over par status until the eleventh and twelfth holes, where he recorded back-to-back birdies to drop his score to 1-under. Holes thirteen through sixteen were status quo for Nolan, before he bogeyed on seventeen to move back to even par. An uneventful eighteenth hole sent Skaggs back to the club house with a first round 72 (E).
Skaggs will tee off day two of the championship at 1:55 p.m. EDT on Tuesday (May 20), starting on hole 1.
