Papleux Scores Twice to Lead STAC Field Hockey Past Saint Michael's, 2-1

Sparkill, N.Y. - A pair of Clemence Papleux third quarter goals helped propel the St. Thomas Aquinas College Field Hockey team to a thrilling 2-1 NE10 victory over Saint Michael's College on Saturday morning at Spartan Field.

STAC moves to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in NE10 action, while Saint Michael's slips to 0-8 and 0-3.

The aforementioned Papleux scored a pair of goals on the day for the Spartans, with both assisted by teammate Katelyn Cerrato. Rebecca Wallace-West tallied the lone goal for the visiting Purple Knights on a rebound goal off of the pads of STAC goalie Ailsa Ogilvie late in the fourth quarter.

In the cage, Ogilvie (W, 2-4) made nine stops on ten shots for the maroon and gold, with Joelle Cameron (L, 0-8) turning aside 10 of 12 shots faced for Saint Michael's.

How it Happened

  • An offensive rush by the Spartans allowed Katelyn Cerrato to race up the sideline and send a short pass to Clemence Papleux where she smoked a hard, high-rising shot past goalie Joelle Cameron at the top of the right post to make it 1-0 STAC.
  • Defensive pressure by STAC and a stolen pass by Cerrato, turned into a through ball to a breaking Papleux for a low shot that beat Cameron to double the hosts lead at 2-0.
  • Saint Michael's was finally able to break the shutout when a Maddy Wall shot kicked back into play off the pads of goalie Ailsa Ogilvie and was put to the back of the cage by Rebecca Wallace-West to cut their deficit to 2-1.
