Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Field Hockey team continued its homestand on Tuesday afternoon, facing off with Pace University at Spartan Field. STAC led 1-0 midway through the first stanza, but then saw Pace score five unanswered goals to earn the 5-1 victory.
STAC falls to 3-7 overall and 2-3 in NE10 play, while Pace improves to 5-6 and 4-2.
Kyleigh Kearney tallied four goals on the afternoon, with teammate Josefina Villa Alonso netting a goal of her own for the visiting Setters. In the cage, Morgan Strecker (W, 5-5) got the start for Pace and allowed a goal on two shots faced in 45 minutes of action. Caitlyn Zabko came on in relief in the fourth quarter and saw no shots thrown her way.
Meanwhile, Lily Schommer scored the first goal of her collegiate career for St. Thomas Aquinas, when a shot from Clemence Papleux deflected off of the stick of Gianna Sacco and then the stick of Schommer to the back of the net in the first quarter. Ailsa Ogilvie (L, 3-6) got the nod in the cage for the Spartans and made 19 stops on 24 shots.
