STAC Field Hockey Drops 2025 Season Opener to Roberts Wesleyan, 3-1

Rochester, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Field Hockey team made their way north to Western New York on Friday for the team's 2025 season opener against Roberts Wesleyan University at Redhawks Field.

Goals in the second and third stanzas by Roberts Wesleyan broke a 1-1 tie and propelled the hosts to a 3-1 victory, their third straight to start the young season.

STAC falls to 0-1 on the year, while RWU remains perfect at 3-0.

Makena Tooley tallied a pair of goals for the Redhawks, while Natalee Lawrence also added a goal. Avery Richardson (W, 3-0) got the start in goal for Roberts Wesleyan and faced only one shot, which reached the back of the cage.

Meanwhile, STAC's lone goal game came via freshman Clemence Papleux, who tucked home an initial shot, which was stopped by Richardson for her first collegiate tally. Freshman Evelyn McEwen (L, 0-1) got her first call for the Spartans in net and made four stops on seven shots in three quarters of action. Ailsa Ogilvie spelled McEwen for the final frame and saw no shots come her way.
