The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team dropped two to Dowling College, 6-0 and 6-3. Samantha McDonald went 4-for-7 for the day with two doubles and one RBI. Colleen Pagnani and Shelby Coyle each added an RBI.
In game 1, the Lady Spartans had 5 hits lead by McDonald. Meagan Sweezy went 1-for-3. Maura Powers took the loss on the mound.
STAC got off to a quick start with a one run first inning in game 2. McDonald took first base after being hit by a pitch. Kimberly Nowak reached first on a fielder's choice. A Dowling error on Sweezy's hit advanced the runners, moving Nowak into scoring postion. Shelby Coyle knocked in the first run with a single. The Lady Spartans added another run in the 4th inning on a McDonald single. Wagenstein, who reached on a fielder's choice and advanced on a Brittany Mangan single and ground out by Melissa Place, scored for STAC. In the top of the sixth inning, STAC took a 3-2 lead. Place walked and then advanced to third base on McDonald's second double of the day. Pagnani knocked in the Lady Spartans final run.
The Golden Lions scored 4 runs in th seventh sealing the victory. Sweezy took the loss on the mound.
The Lady Spartans return to action on Thursday as they take on Bridgeport in a doubleheader at Spartan Field. Play is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM.
