The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team split with LIU Post on Monday afternoon at home. STAC dropped game one, 7-4 before defeating the guest, 5-0 in game two. ToniAnn Groth hit a solo home run to start the Lady Spartans off with a 1-0 lead that held up until STAC added four more runs in the bottom of the 6th to secure the win.
In game one, Groth hit an RBI double in the bottom of the 4th to put the Lady Spartans on the board. The bottom of the 5th was highlighted by a Katie Meyers RBI double along with a RBI single from Sam McDonald to bring STAC within one, 4-3. The Pioneers added three more runs in the 6th and STAC could not close the gap despite a Groth homer in the bottom of the inning.
Groth started game two off where she ended with her second home run of the day. Meyers added an RBI single to score Melissa Place. Nikolette Nevola hit an RBI double and McDonald added a 2-RBI single to give STAC the 5-0 win.
Megan Sweezy earned the win on the mound with 3 strike outs. STAC will head to Queens on Tuesday.
