The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team lost to Dowling College, 8-1 and 13-5 on Thursday afternoon. Toni Ann Groth hit a solo homerun in the 6th to score the Lady Spartans lone run in game one. Groth's single in game two came up big scoring three runs. Megan Sweezy added a solo homerun of her own for STAC.
The Lady Spartans scored all four of their runs in the 2nd inning, following a 4-run 1st inning from Dowling. Sweezy led off with her homerun before a trio of singles from Victoria Tiso, Michelle Sasso and Shari's Ruiz loaded the bases. Groth hit cleared the bass and tied the game a 4-up.
The Lions added 9 more runs over the next three innings to take a 13-4 lead after 4 innings. Amber O'Malley went 3-for-4 with 3 runs and 1 RBI for Dowling. STAC added a run in the 5th as Heather Clausen singled and scored off an error by the Dowling shortstop. Groth along with Ruiz went 2-for-3 for the game, while Sweezy went 3-for-3.
The Lady Spartans will host C.W. Post on Saturday for their final ECC double header of the season.
