The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team split with Nyack College and picked up their first win of the 2010 season. STAC lost the first game 4-1 and then picked up a n 11-5 win. Joy Ferriello went 4-for-4 with 2 runs and an RBI in game two.
Heather Clausen hit an RBI double in the first inning scoring Samantha Welsh. Nyack responded with two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead. STAC regained control in the second as they added six runs highlighted by Caitlin Sherrier's 2-RBI single with runners on second and third. The Lady Spartans added a run in the next four innings to stay ahead of Nyack. Sheerier along with Angela Squillini both went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Freshman Maura Power picked up her first career win going a full seven innings allowing 4 hits and striking out 3.
Earlier in the day STAC struggled to score stranding six batters. Michelle Sasso grounded out in the sixth with runners on the corners giving STAC its one run of the game. The Lady Spartans will play their home opener this weekend as the host Philadelphia University for a double header.
