Lady Spartans Split with Felician
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team beat Felician College, 6-1 in the first game before falling 6-4 in game two. Joy Ferriello hit a grand slam in the fifth inning to lead the Lady Spartans in their win.
Felician scored a run in the top of the first but STAC responded with a run in the bottom of the inning. Alyssa Cataldo reached on a fielders choice with the bases loaded to score, Sharis Ruiz and tie the game. Both teams were quiet until the bottom of the fifth when Samantha Welsh reached on an error. With two outs Angela Squillini was intentionally walked. Cataldo was hit by a pitch to load the bases and set up Ferriello for her two out homerun. STAC added a run in the sixth to secure the win. Freshman Maura Power earned the win on the mound.
In game two the Golden Falcon used a 4-run third inning to take a 4-0 lead over STAC. Ruiz hit an RBI single in the bottom of the inning scoring Heather Clausen. Both teams added runs in the fourth as Squillini hit an RBI single to score Cataldo and bring STAC within three, 5-2. STAC continued to rally back adding two more runs in the fifth highlighted by a Cataldo RBI double. However, Felician was able to score again in the sixth and held on for the 6-4 win.
The Lady Spartans will return to action on Saturday as they host NYIT.
