Sparkill, N.Y. - Leading two sets to none to open Saturday's East Coast Conference match, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Volleyball team suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Mercy University at the Spartan Athletic Complex.
STAC falls 6-14 overall and 0-7 in ECC action, while Mercy improves to 10-7 and 4-3.
Playing its second straight home match, the Spartans won the first two sets, before the visiting Mavericks took three straight sets, including the deciding fifth set, to clinch the victory.

How it Happened
- As a team, Mercy recorded 63 kills compared to STAC's 56. The Mavericks also had 11 blocks and 58 assists, while the Spartans tallied 7 blocks and 53 assists.
- Mercy outhit STAC by a .275 to .262 margin for the match.
- Greta Santini led the Spartans offense with a match-high 20 kills. She also registered five service aces, five digs and three block assists.
- Lea Venghaus recorded 46 serve assists (9.2 assists/set). Venghaus also accumulated two kills, eight digs and a block assist for the maroon and gold.
- Evie Paalman tallied 17 kills, two assists, three service aces, nine digs and a block assist on the afternoon.
- Chloe Weiting posted eight kills, four digs and a block assist against the Mavericks.
- Isis Barrett added to the Spartans totals with six kills, a dig, a solo block and four block assists.
- Christianna Roberts accumulated three kills and two block assists across five sets on Saturday.
- Dahiana Garcia Atuesta put together a five assist and 13 dig effort for the hosts from Sparkill.
