Flushing, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Queens College in East Coast Conference Tournament semifinal round on Friday morning at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
STAC closes out its 2025-26 campaign with a 6-9 overall record and a 3-4 ECC mark, while Queens improves to 15-4.
DOUBLES
Queens opened semifinal action with a strong performance in doubles play, by taking two-of-three matchups. The duo of Johanne Genestay & Lydia Zafeiri won their match by default over Monica Martinez Blucher & Chanelle Russell at No. 3 and Lilie Bizouerne & Sixtine Goubet beat Mar Caneves Bufi & Shreethika Vangala, 6-1 at No. 2.
SINGLES
Once the sides moved to singles action, there was no turning back for Queens, as they claimed the first three matches from the Spartans to secure the win and advance to Saturday's championship. Regina Ruiz started the victory spree in the No. 6 slot, taking her matchup over Chanelle Russell 6-0, 6-0. Johanne Genestay followed the trend, taking a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Monica Martinez Blucher in the No. 5 slot to give the Knights a commanding 3-0 lead and put the Spartans on the ropes, facing elimination. Ela Vasic delivered the final knockout blow in the No. 4 position, taking a 6-1, 6-2 decision against Sun Zhuoxuan to end the postseason contest.
