Altamonte Springs, Fla. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team made it three wins in a row on Thursday with a hard fought 4-3 victory over California University of Pennsylvania at Sanlando Park.
STAC moves to 4-5 on the season, while CAL (Pa.) slips to 6-5.
Doubles
STAC opened the match by securing the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. The top doubles pair of Kateryna Kryuchkova and Sun Zhuoxuan earned a strong 6-2 victory over Leandra Guldimann and Sofia Rodriguez. Shortly after, Shreethika Vangala and Mar Caneves Bufi clinched the point with a 6-3 win against Garance Laforet and Diletta Maria Mungo at No. 2 doubles. California (PA) recorded the No. 3 doubles match by default.
Singles
In singles play, STAC captured three straight-set victories to secure the match. Sun Zhuoxuan picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Lilli Schreiber at No. 3 singles. Mar Caneves Bufi followed with a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Diletta Maria Mungo at No. 2 singles. At the top spot, Kateryna Kryuchkova sealed the Spartans' fourth point with a 6-0, 7-6 (3) win over Leandra Guldimann at No. 1 singles.
California (PA) claimed wins at No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 singles, but it was not enough to overcome STAC's advantage.
