Flushing, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team returned to action on Wednesday, taking on No. 26 ITA Division II nationally ranked Queens College at the QC Tennis Bubble. In a matchup between East Coast Conference foes that have battled for the last three conference championships, the host Knights shut out the Spartans 7-0.
STAC falls to 5-7 overall and 2-4 in ECC play, while Queens improves to 10-3 and remains perfect in league play at 7-0.
Doubles
Queen's secured all three doubles matches, putting STAC on the defensive from the start. No. 3 Johanne Genestay & Lydia Zafeiri defeated Monica Martinez Blucher & Chanelle Russell by default, No. 2 Lilie Bizouerne & Sixtine Goubet beat Mar Caneves Bufi & Shreethika Vangala 6-1 and No. 1 Marie Bertran & Ela Vasic bested Kateryna Kryuchkova & Sun Zhuoxuan 7-5.
Singles
In singles play, the Knights moved quickly to end the match by taking all six bouts from the Spartans. No. 6 Allycia Santa-Cruz blanked Chanelle Russell 6-0, 6-0, followed by No. 5 Kayla Taszymowicz shutting out Monica Martinez Blucher 6-0, 6-0. Next, No. 3 Ela Vasic beat Sun Zhuoxuan 6-2, 6-2, No. 4 Regina Ruiz defeated Shreethika Vangala 6-1, 6-2, No. 2 Lilie Bizouerne pushed past Mar Caneves Bufi 6-1, 6-4 and No. 1 Sixtine Goubet scraped by Kateryna Kryuchkova 7-5, 6-4 to end the day's events.
