Kissimmee, Fla. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team dropped its second straight spring match (third overall) on Wednesday, falling to the University of North Dakota, 6-1, at Oak Street Park.
STAC slips to 7-4 on the season, while North Dakota improves to 10-4.
North Dakota opened play by taking two of three doubles matches, with the only Spartans' victory coming via the team of Mar Caneves Bufi and Elise Semmartin at No.3. The pair defeated Andrea Pineda and Manon Hallemans, 6-2. No. 1 Ethel Li & Aziza Aubin shut out Kateryna Kryuchkova & Sun Zhuoxuan, 6-0 with No. 2 Jule Schulte & Nore Heinitz (UND) blanking Courtney Fyvie & Elita Silins, 6-0.
In singles action, the Fighting Hawks moved quickly to end the match, winning five of six bouts to take the team victory. However, No. 3 Elise Semmartin prevented North Dakota from gaining a clean sweep by downing Jule Schulte 6-1, 7-6 (2). No. 2 Ethel Li bested Elita Silins 6-1, 6-3, No. 6 Manon Hallemans (UND) defeated Sun Zhuoxuan (STAC) 6-1, 6-4, No. 1 Andrea Pineda beat Courtney Fyvie (STAC) 6-2, 6-3, No. 4 Nore Heinitz (UND) triumphed over Kateryna Kryuchkova (STAC) 7-6 (5), 6-4 and No. 5 Aziza Aubin (UND) closed out the day winning against Mar Caneves Bufi (STAC) 5-7, 7-6 (8), 1-0 (6).
