Sparkill, N.Y. - Hosting the first of three straight home matches to close 2024-25 regular season play, the No. 37 ITA-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team rolled to their fifth straight victory, 6-1 over Jefferson University at the Riley Family Tennis Courts.
STAC improves to 12-4 overall, while Jefferson slips to 9-15 on the season.
The Spartans kicked off the day by taking the first team point on the strength of two-of-three doubles victories. No. 1 Elita Silins & Courtney Fyvie doubled up Nicole Hrbkova & Alycia Veroux, 6-3, followed by No. 2 Kateryna Kryuchkova & Sun Zhuoxuan defeating Zenia Barretto & Anna Morgillo, 6-3. No. 3 Emily Frost & Rose Huang helped the Rams avoid a sweep with a 7-6 (7-3) win over Mar Caneves Bufi & Elise Semmartin.
When the sides turned to singles action, STAC earned the first two triumphs to put the visitors on the ropes. No. 2 Elita Silins dispatched Nicole Hrbkova 6-2, 7-5 and No. 3 Elise Semmartin downed Anna Morgillo 6-1, 6-4 to lead the match 3-0. Jefferson battled back with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 win by No. 1 Alycia Veroux over Courtney Fyvie to get on the scoreboard at 3-1, but the good feelings lasted only momentarily as No. 5 Mar Caneves Bufi took a 6-0, 6-1 decision from Zenia Barretto to make it 4-1 and give the maroon and gold the victory. No. 4 Kateryna Kryuchkova def. Rose Huang 7-6 (5), 6-4, 1-0 (7) and No. 6 Ombeline Robilliart def. Emily Frost 6-0, 7-6 (9) to close out the day's events.

Jefferson is a good team, so the 6-1 final score was somewhat surprising," commented Rockhill. Elita, our MIP, was terrific. She creates a lot of problems for opponents leaving them frustrated and confused."
