Sparkill, N.Y. - Playing their second straight match in as many days, the No. 37 ITA-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team took care of business at the Riley Family Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon, downing Adelphi University 5-2 for their sixth straight victory.
STAC improves to 13-4 on the season, while Adelphi slips to 10-6.
The Spartans opened the match by taking the first team point on the strength of two-of-three doubles victories. No. 3 Mar Caneves Bufi & Elise Semmartin defeated Sara Lindeman & Genesis Beltran, 6-1, followed by No. 1 Courtney Fyvie & Elita Silins doubling up Katarina Liedbeck & Roisin Boyd, 6-3. No. 2 Caterina Federici & Zuzanna Witkowska helped the Panthers avoid a sweep with a 6-3 win over Kateryna Kryuchkova & Sun Zhuoxuan.
When the sides turned to singles action, STAC earned the first two triumphs to put the visitors on the ropes. No. 1 Courtney Fyvie dispatched Katarina Liedback 6-2, 6-3 and No. 2 Elita Silins downed Zuzanna Witkowska 7-5, 6-1 to lead the match 3-0. Adelphi battled back with a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 win by No. 3 Roisin Boyd over Elise Semmartin to get on the scoreboard at 3-1, but that lasted only momentarily as No. 4 Kateryna Kryuchkova took a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 decision from Sara Lindeman to make it 4-1 and give the maroon and gold the victory. No. 5 Mar Caneves Bufi def. Caterina Federici 6-1, 6-0 and No. 6 Genesis Beltran def. Ombeline Robilliart 6-3, 6-1 to close out the day's events.
