Recently, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its final Division II Women’s Team, Singles and Doubles Regional and National Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point.
The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team took the top position in the East Region, while also placing #42 in the nation, to close out the 2023-2024 season.
STAC wrapped up its campaign at 16-7 overall and 4-1 in ECC play, having captured their second straight ECC Tournament Championship back in late October to qualify for the NCAA Division II Tournament. In regional play, the Spartans put together a gritty 4-3 come-from-behind victory over Wilmington University (Del.) to advance to the program's second NCAA Women's Tennis Finals - Round of 16 in as many years.
The maroon and gold picked up wins over Chestnut Hill (4-3), Molloy (7-0), District of Columbia (5-2), West Chester (7-0), Post (7-0), D"Youville (6-1), Daemen (6-1), District of Columbia -ECC Semifinal (4-0), Queens - ECC Final (4-1), Bentley (7-0) Adelphi (6-1), Wilmington (5-2), SUNY New Paltz (4-0), Goldey-Beacom (6-1), Jefferson (7-0) and Wilmington - NCAA East Regional (4-3). The team's blemishes come via regular season setbacks to Queens (4-3), Lewis (6-1), Lubbock Christian (4-3), Texas-Tyler (4-3), Vassar (4-3), Fordham (6-1) and national runner-up Barry - NCAA Finals (4-0) in postseason play.
In addition, the following Spartans earned individual regional and national rankings for their outstanding singles and doubles performances during the 2023-24 season.
