STAC Men's & Women's Tennis Teams Earn First-Ever ITA National Recognition

Sparkill, N.Y. - On Thursday, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its Men's and Women's National polls, with both St. Thomas Aquinas College teams earning spots in the top 50 among Division II teams for the first time in each of the program's histories.

On the men's side, the Spartans were ranked #35 in the nation and are the only team from the East Coast Conference to make the poll. STAC currently holds a 6-1 record with victories over Jefferson, U. Sciences, West Chester, Saint Michael's, Manhattanville and Adelphi. The team's only blemish comes via Division I Fairleigh Dickinson.

Meanwhile, the women's squad received the #43 position in the national rankings, with the University of the District of Columbia joining the Lady Spartans as the other ECC team to make the poll, at #21. STAC currently holds a 9-2 record with victories over New Haven, Jefferson, Le Moyne, Daemen, D'Youville, Queens, Dominican, West Chester and Molloy. The team's only defeats comes at the hands of UDC in the regular season and Queens College in the ECC Tournament.

St. Thomas Aquinas takes on Edinboro University on March 10 & 11 at Queens College. The STAC women's team faces the Fighting Scots on Thursday at 3pm, while the men's squads battle on Friday, also at 3pm.
