About Change the World Model United Nations

The Change the World Model United Nations (CWMUN) is an annual international meetings program attended by more than 5000 students from all over the world, in which they debate the major issues of the international political agenda. It currenly takes place in different cities: New York City, Abu Dhabi, Singapore and Rome.

Thanks to the work done through the years; students develop leadership, research, writing, public speaking skills as well as problem solving expertise. An active participation encourage consensus building through mediation and negotiation, conflict resolution and the ability to rapidly build friendly and profitable relations among people.

Additionally, the Change the World Model United Nations – one in a hundreds MUN Conferences – every year selects and plans special educational activities choosing among the most important global issues to be addressed to the Committees (for example: global warming and climate change, water shortages and sanitation, peace and security, human rights , poverty and hunger, social and economic development , globalization). During our Conference, students from different countries work together in order to present concrete solutions to the matters under discussion, as if they were in a real world forum, studying and discussing key geopolitical issues.

Mission Statement

Associazione Diplomatici, NGO in consultative status with ECOSOC, sponsored the Change the World Model United Nations (CWMUN) with the aim to convey to young people the sense of belonging to today’s global society, to bring forth their sense of responsibility towards the issues that affect our planet, and train them to encourage their concrete commitment as leaders and thinkers of tomorrow.

The concept standing behind CWMUN directly reflects Diplomatici’s global engagement pursued through educational means:

  • Change the World MUN revolves around a specific theme which is developed on the most compelling international issues (global warming and climate change, water scarcity and sanitation, peace and security, human rights, world hunger and poverty, social and economic development, globalization, etc.). A different theme is c hosen every year and it constitutes the main topic of the whole conference, which is one of the features that makes CWMUN unique of its kind!
  • Accurately reproducing the actual working procedures of the major UN multilateral bodies, CWMUN gives participants the opportunity to take on the role of ambassadors to the UN, representing the viewpoint of a single Member State or a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) within several different committees. During the conference, students from different countries cooperate with each other to build concrete proposals, negotiate to reach consensus, and eventually pass resolutions that represent the results of an intercultural creative process addressed to face our world’s most pressing troubles.

Special Events & Committees in our past editions: G8, G20, World Bank Executive Board, Future Security Council, Historical Security Council, Crisis Simulations.

Why education is so important to us?

Education has a great social importance especially in the modern, complex societies like ours. Education has this function of cultural transmission in all societies. It is only at the under leaves of the schools and international Conferences, like CWMUN, that any serious attempt has been, or now is, made to deal with this area. Individual must have personalities shaped or fashioned in ways that fit into this changing world. Education everywhere has the function of the formation of social personalities. Education helps in transmitting culture through proper molding of social personalities. In this way, it contributes to the integration. The importance of education is undeniable for every single person. It goes without saying that education has a positive effect on human life. All people need to study. Only with the advent of education can people gain knowledge and enlarge their view over the world. Education through Model UN Conferences is absolutely beneficial for society on the whole. It is a life-long process to each student that needs to be reinforced throughout life.
