Spartan Women's Tennis Makes First Ever Appearance in NCAA East Region Rankings

The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team received their first ever NCAA Division II East Region ranking, in polls released on Wednesday afternoon.

The Spartans, currently 6-0 (3-0 ECC) and riding a six match win streak, are "under consideration" for their first ever NCAA postseason bid via either an East Coast Conference Championship, which would also be a program first, or an at-large bid.

In the 2020-2021 season, due to disparity of games played this season and the limited data available, schools are listed as “under consideration” in alphabetical order for championship selection.

STAC appeared in the ECC Tennis Tourney in the fall of 2019, falling in the semifinal to the University of the District of Columbia, but have since added a mix of international and local recruits in addition to key returners in the hopes of capturing an ECC Crown and an NCAA bid.

For this season, in the East Region, the Tournament Champions of the East Coast Conference (ECC), Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10), and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) each earn an automatic bid to the NCAAs, with one other bid offered to a remaining top-ranked team on an "at-large" basis.

St. Thomas Aquinas looks to continue its winning ways on Thursday, April 22, when they travel to Caldwell for a 4pm match.
