Blas, Villegas-Robles Take Home ECC Women's Tennis All-Conference Honors, Capell Named Co-Coach of the Year

St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis players Karina Blas and Samanta Villegas-Robles were named ECC All-Conference selections on Thursday, as the league revealed their annual awards, voted on by the conference's coaches. In addition, Head Coach Matt Capell was selected as the Co-Coach of the Year, in a vote by his peers.

In her second season with the Spartans, Blas (Tarnow, Poland) posted a 4-3 record at the #1 singles position and a 4-4 mark as the #1 doubles team with partner Samanta Villegas-Robles. Karina was named the ECC Player of the Week (April 19), during the 2021 regular season.

Villegas-Robles (Leon, Mexico), recorded a 5-1 mark at both the #2 and #3 singles positions and a 4-3 record as the #1 doubles team with partner Karina Blas in just her first season here in Sparkill.

In his fifth season at the helm of the STAC Women's Tennis program, Capell led the Spartans to a 9-2 record, including a 5-1 mark in ECC play to earn the conference regular season title and #1 overall seed in the postseason tournament.
