EAST STROUDSBURG, PA – On the road for a regional matchup, the St. Thomas Aquinas College women’s tennis team won in near-shutout fashion against East Stroudsburg, 8-1. Sweeping the doubles portion of the match for only the second time this season, the Lady Spartans took their 3-0 into singles play and clinched the victory with wins at #3 and #2 singles, respectively.
Freshmen Lovisa Engstrand ’21 (Stockholm, Sweden) and Cassandra Rohr ’21 (Mallorca, Spain) were solid again, as Engstrand won her 3rd singles match 6-0, 6-0 before Rohr clinched the match at 2nd singles, 6-1, 6-1. The win marked Engstrand’s 9thconsecutive singles victory.
With the match decided, the Lady Spartans won at fifth, fourth, and sixth singles to round out the scoring. Senior tri-captain Sara O’Brien ’18 (Orangeburg, NY) won 8-3 at #5, while sophomore Katarina Lopez ’20 (New City, NY) matched her 8-3 win at the #4 spot. Senior tri-captain Carolyn Kopf ’18 (Garnerville, NY) won at #6 8-4 for the final point of the day.
The Lady Spartans travel to UDC on Thursday, with a 12:00 PM start time, with playoff implications on the line.
