STAC Women's Lax Secures Second Straight Victory, Tops UDC 18-11 on Senior Day

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Lacrosse team picked up their second straight win, topping the University of the District of Columbia 18-11 on Senior Day at Spartan Field.

STAC moves to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in ECC play, while UDC falls to 0-9 and 0-5.

Prior to the contest, the Spartans honored their graduating senior class; Jade Gorman, Jada Garcia and Lilah Magenheimer with on-field ceremonies, which included the athletes' families, friends, teammates, coaches and college administrators.

Once the pregame festivities concluded, Jade Gorman led the Spartans' offense with four goals and an assist on the afternoon, while Jada Garcia (2 assists), Victoria Calabro (2 assists), Clemence Papleux (1 assist) and Morgan VanDover all tallied hat tricks. Katie Purpura (2 assists) and Angelina Scagnelli (1 assist) added to the totals on the scoreboard with their first goals of the season. Lilah Magenheimer (W, 2-5) got the start in net for the maroon and gold and turned aside 12 of 23 shots fired her way to earn the win.

Meanwhile, UDC was led by Jada Williams with five goals and two assists, while Najee Gunter tallied a hat trick, and Aliyah Bailey (1 assist), Grace Hall and Keliah Tucker all scored a goal apiece. Goalie Natalia Perkins (L, 0-9) stopped 8 of 26 shots faced.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

St. Thomas Aquinas struck first in the opening quarter, as Victoria Calabro converted a free-position shot to set the tone. After UDC answered with a man-up goal from Aliyah Bailey to even the score, the Spartans quickly seized control. Clemence Papleux, Jade Gorman, and Morgan VanDover fueled a strong offensive surge, with Gorman adding a second tally later in the frame. UDC managed a late goal from Jada Williams, but STAC held a solid 5–2 lead after one.

The second quarter saw the Spartans continue to dictate play. Gorman opened the scoring with a man-up goal, and although UDC capitalized on multiple player-up opportunities to stay within reach, STAC consistently responded. Jada Garcia converted a free-position attempt, Papleux added two more goals, and the Spartans carried a 9–5 advantage into halftime.

Coming out of the break, St. Thomas Aquinas delivered its most dominant stretch of the game. The Spartans erupted for a five-goal run, highlighted by contributions from Angelina Scagnelli, Katie Purpura, Garcia, and Calabro. Garcia remained a key factor with multiple free-position goals, while Calabro added both an even-strength and man-up tally. UDC briefly interrupted the run, but STAC extended its lead to 15–6 heading into the fourth.

In the final quarter, UDC showed fight with a series of goals, including multiple scores from Jada Williams and Najee Gunter, cutting into the deficit. However, the Spartans maintained control throughout. VanDover added two more goals—including a down-a-player score—while Gorman capped her strong performance with a late man-up goal. Despite the late push from Dominican, St. Thomas Aquinas secured a decisive 18–11 victory.

  • STAC outshot UDC 34-33 (26-23 on goal) for the game.
  • Jade Gorman tallied a team-high ten shots for the Spartans, with nine going on net.
  • Clemence Papleux, Jada Garcia and Victoria Calabro caused two Firebirds turnovers apiece in the match.
  • Clemence Papleux scooped up eight of the Spartans 34 ground balls.
  • STAC won 19 of 31 draw controls, with Papleux winning eight.
