Young STAC Squad Gains Experience Despite 15-4 Loss to Post

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Lacrosse team continued their three-match homestand, hosting Post University on Wednesday afternoon at Spartan Field. Despite a putting together a strong effort and continuing to show improvement in all facets of the game, the visiting Eagles took a 15-4 decision from the maroon and gold.

STAC falls to 0-5 overall on the season, while Post moves to 1-1.

Jada Garcia led the Spartans' offense with two goals, while Jade Gorman tallied a goal and added a helper, and Victoria Calabro found the back of the cage with the first goal of her collegiate career. Goalie Lilah Magenheimer (L, 0-3) got the start between the pipes for the maroon and gold and turned aside 14 of 29 shots faced.

Meanwhile, Post was led by Peyton Tully, who tallied five goals, while Claire Green added four goals and an assist and Alyssa Hebb scored a hat trick and added a helper. Teammates Caryss Kelhl (2 goals, 1 assist) and Anna D'Angelo (1 goal, 1 assist) also added to the totals on the scoreboard. Goalie Katheryn Sousa (W, 1-1), made 6 saves on 10 shots fired in her direction to earn the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Post controlled the game from the opening draw, jumping out to a fast start with four first-quarter goals while limiting the Spartans to just one. Caryss Kehl opened the scoring less than a minute in, and Claire Greene followed with a goal off an assist from Anna D'Angelo. After Jada Garcia got St. Thomas Aquinas on the board with an unassisted player-down tally, Peyton Tully responded with back-to-back goals to give Post a 4-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Eagles extended their advantage in the second quarter with a six-goal period. Greene continued to lead the offense, adding multiple goals, while Tully stayed hot with two more unassisted finishes. Garcia struck again for the Spartans on a player-up opportunity off a feed from Jade Gorman, and Gorman later added an unassisted goal to keep STAC within reach at 6-3. However, Post closed the half on a strong run, including a late player-down goal by Alyssa Hebb, to take a commanding 10-3 lead into halftime.

Post maintained control in the third quarter, adding three more goals while holding the Spartans scoreless. Kehl recorded her second goal of the game, D'Angelo converted on a player-up opportunity off a pass from Greene, and Hebb added a free-position goal to push the lead to 13-3 heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth, Post continued to add to its total with goals from Hebb and Tully to reach 15. St. Thomas Aquinas continued to compete late, as Victoria Calabro capped the scoring with a goal off an assist from Clemence Papleux with under four minutes remaining.
