Women's Lacrosse Slated to Finish Fourth According to ECC Preseason Coaches Poll

SPARKILL, N.Y. – On Thursday, the East Coast Conference announced the results of its Women's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll, with St. Thomas Aquinas College picked to finish fourth in the league's standings.

Returning to the field for their spring season in 2021, following an abbreviated 2020 campaign due to COVID-19, the Spartans posted a 4-5 record (2-3 ECC) and qualified for the conference's postseason tournament. In the opening round of the ECC tourney, STAC fell to eventual championship runner-up Mercy College, 20-8.

The Spartans return 11 players from last year's squad and will add a mix of freshmen and upperclassman to a very talented, up and coming roster. The biggest change for STAC in the new season will be on the sideline, as Genesis Pachecho will lead the STAC Women's Lacrosse program as its new Head Coach in 2022.

St. Thomas Aquinas will battle ECC and NCAA East Region Champs, and National Championship semifinalist, Roberts Wesleyan College, along with the Mercy College, Molloy College, University of Bridgeport, D'Youville College and the University of the District of Columbia for the right to be called ECC Women's Lacrosse Champion. The teams will only play each other once in the regular season.

The action gets underway for the Spartans on Friday, February 25 (3:00 p.m.) against Post University at Spartan Field.
