Threes Company: Women's Basketball Hits 17 from Deep in 92-71 Rout of Roberts Wesleyan

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team set a new single-game mark for three-point field goals made by draining 17 from downtown en route to a 92-71 rout of Roberts Wesleyan University on Friday evening at Aquinas Hall Gymnasium.

STAC moves to 7-16 overall and 4-7 in ECC play, while Roberts Wesleyan falls to 4-13 and 1-8.

Bailey Chapman posted a game-high 27 points, while teammates Toni Schuetze (18 points) and Abby Jacoby (14 points) also scored in double figures. Meanwhile, Erin Frazier led all Redhawks' scorers with 17 points of her own.

St. Thomas Aquinas shot 54.0 percent (27-50) from the field and a red-hot 60.7 percent (17-28) from beyond the arc, while Roberts Wesleyan shot 36.5 percent (23-63) from the floor.

STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Eight Spartans logged double-digit minutes in the non-conference contest. 
  • Abby Jacoby, Bailey Chapman and Toni Schuetze led the maroon and gold with three assists apiece on the night.
  • Bailey Chapman hit 8 of her 10 field goal attempts, with six hitting the net from long range. She also made 5-of-8 free throws. Meanwhile, Toni Schuetze went 4-of-8 from the floor, 3-of-5 from three and 7-of-8 from the charity stripe.
  • STAC out-rebounded Roberts Wesleyan by a 45-30 margin, with Jona Kabashi grabbing a game-high nine boards for the Spartans.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas picked up eight steals, with the Redhawks turning the ball over on 21 separate occasions.
  • The Spartans earned advantages in two team statistical categories over Roberts Wesleyan: Second Chance Points (7-5) and Fastbreak Points (13-12).
  • The game featured four ties and one lead change.
  • STAC's largest lead of the game came with just under two minutes to play in the third stanza, when Spartans led by 35 points, 77-42, on a Cassidy Mahaney three-point jump shot.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas held a 52-32 advantage going into the halftime locker room and shot 58.6 percent (17-29) from the field, 63.2 percent (12-19) from long distance and 100.0 percent from the free-throw line (6-6).
  • Bailey Chapman led all scorers with 19 first half points for the Spartans, while shooting 75.0 percent (6-for-8) from the floor, 71.4 percent (5-of-7) from three and 100.0 percent from the foul line (2-of-2).
  • STAC's best shooting quarter came in the third stanza, with the maroon and gold hitting 6 of its 10 total shots for a 60.0 field goal percentage, 3 of its 4 three pointers for a 75.0 percent clip and 11 of its 13 free throws for an 84.6 percent rating.

ROBERTS WESLEYAN NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Ten Redhawks logged double-digit minutes in the contest. 
  • Erin Frazier led Roberts Wesleyan with 17 points, while Jada Mushat (15 points), Aniyah Jones (13 points) and Barbora Fronkova (13 points) also scored in double figures.
  • Tierra Hendricks led Roberts Wesleyan with six assists on the evening.
  • Frazier went 6-for-9 from the floor and hit all three of her free throws, as Mushat shot 5-for-15 from the field.
  • Laura Granada grabbed a team-high six boards for the Redhawks.
  • Roberts Wesleyan picked up 15 steals, with the Spartans turning the ball over on 31 separate occasions.
  • The Redhawks earned advantages in three team statistical categories over St. Thomas Aquinas: Points off Turnovers (31-22), Points in the Paint (20-18) and Bench Points (25-16).
  • Jada Mushat led all Redhawks' scorers with 11 first half points, while shooting 40.0 percent (4-for-10) from the floor and 37.5 percent (3-of-8) from three.
  • Roberts Wesleyan's largest lead of the game came with just under eight minutes to play in the opening stanza, when Redhawks led by two points, 8-6, on an Erin Frazier three-point jump shot.
  • Roberts Wesleyan's best shooting quarter came in the final frame, with the Redhawks hitting 5 of its 13 total shots for a 38.5 field goal percentage, with three going in from long range for a 60.0 percent clip.
