Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team closed the home portion of its 2025-26 regular season schedule on Sunday, securing an 81-62 Senior Day decision over Queens College at Aquinas Hall Gymnasium.
STAC moves to 8-19 overall and 5-10 in ECC play, while Queens falls to 7-19 and 4-10.
Prior to the Spartans' home finale, the maroon and gold honored its graduating class, as Trinity Cheatom's collegiate career was celebrated with on-court ceremonies, which included the athlete's family, teammates, coaches and college administrators.
When the teams got underway on the hardwood, Jona Kabashi recorded a game-high 25 points for the Spartans, while teammates Bailey Chapman (21 points) and Cassidy Mahaney (17 points) also factored in STAC's totals with each scoring in double figures. Meanwhile, Chyna Bryant led the visiting Knights in scoring with a team-high 16 points.
STAC shot 46.0 percent (29-63) from the field and 87.5 percent (14-16) from the foul line, while Queens shot 32.4 percent (24-74) from the floor.
STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Six Spartans logged double-digit minutes in the non-conference contest.
- Bailey Chapman led the maroon and gold with five assists on the day.
- Jona Kabashi hit 9 of her 17 field goal attempts and all seven of her free throws. Meanwhile, Bailey Chapman went 8-of-11 from the floor and 5-of-8 from downtown.
- Queens out-rebounded STAC by a 47-41 margin, with Bailey Chapman also grabbing a team-high 11 boards for the Spartans.
- St. Thomas Aquinas picked up six steals, with the Knights turning the ball over on 13 separate occasions.
- The Spartans earned advantages in four team statistical categories over Queens: Points off Turnovers (19-12), Points in the Paint (36-32), Fastbreak Points (22-9) and Bench Points (33-18).
- The game featured one tie and five lead changes.
- STAC's largest lead of the game came with just under two minutes to play in the third stanza, when the Spartans led by 20 points, 64-44, on a Bailey Chapman three-point jump shot.
- St. Thomas Aquinas led Queens 38-32 going into the halftime locker room, and shot 43.3 percent (13-30) from the field, 33.3 percent (7-17) from beyond the arc and 71.4 percent (5-7) from the foul line.
- Bailey Chapman, Cassidy Mahaney and Jona Kabashi led all scorers with 11 first half points apiece for the Spartans.
- STAC's best shooting quarter came in the second quarter, with the maroon and gold hitting 8 of its 15 total shots for a 53.3 field goal percentage and 5-of-8 from distance for a 62.5 percent three-point percentage.
QUEENS NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Eight Knights logged double-digit minutes in the contest.
- Chyna Bryant led Queens' offense with 16 points, while teammate Nkiru Awaka (12 points) also scored in double digits.
- Enise Hodzic led Queens with three assists on the afternoon.
- Bryant went 5-for-11 from the floor and 5-of-8 from the charity stripe, with Awaka hitting 6-of-12 field goal attempts.
- Nkiru Awaka also grabbed a game-high 17 boards for the Knights.
- Queens picked up six steals, with the Spartans turning the ball over on 14 separate occasions.
- The Knights earned one advantage in the team statistical categories over St. Thomas Aquinas: Second Chance Points (25-14).
- Queens had its largest lead of the game (four points) with just over three minutes to play in the second quarter, 28-24, on a Yinka Kruyswijk three-point jump shot.
- Chyna Bryant led all Knights' scorers at the half with ten points.
- Queens' best shooting quarter also came in the second frame, with the Knights shooting 50.0 percent from both the field (8-16) and from long range (3-6).
