STAC Women's Basketball Falls To D'Youville In Double Overtime, 81-74

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team dropped its fifth straight decision with a double overtime loss to D'Youville University 81-74 on Sunday afternoon at Aquinas Hall Gym.

STAC falls to 4-17 overall and 2-9 in ECC play, while D'Youville moves to 6-15 and 4-8.

Syrita Faraj posted a team-high 21 points for the maroon and gold, while teammates Karolina Jaruseviciute (18 points) and Trinity Cheatom (12 points) also scored in double figures. Anna Jankoic led all scorers with 28 points for the visiting Saints.

St. Thomas Aquinas shot 38.4 percent from the field (28-73), while D'Youville shot 40.6 percent (28-69) from the floor.

STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Eight Spartans logged double-digit minutes in the contest.
  • Karolina Jaruseviciute led the maroon and gold with four assists on the afternoon.
  • Syrita Faraj hit 7 of her 22 field goal attempts and 6-of-9 free throws. Meanwhile, Karolina Jaruseviciute went 7-for-13 from the floor and 4-of-6 from the foul line.
  • STAC out-rebounded D'Youville by 49-42 margin, with Faraj also grabbing a team-high 15 boards for the Spartans.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas forced nine steals, with the Saints turning the ball over on 16 separate occasions.
  • The Spartans earned advantages in four team statistical categories over D'Youville: Points off Turnovers (20-16), Second Chance Points (14-10), Points in the Paint (38-18) and Bench Points (20-6).
  • STAC's had its largest lead of the game (13 points) with just under six minutes to play in the second quarter, 23-10, on a Syrita Faraj three-point jumper.
  • The game featured five ties and eight lead changes.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas led D'Youville 27-18 at the half and shot 36.6 percent (11-of-30) from the field.
  • Syrita Faraj led all scorers with nine first half points for the Spartans, while shooting 30.0 percent from the field (3-for-10).
  • STAC's best shooting quarter came in the third stanza, with the Spartans shooting 53.8 percent (7-13) from the field and 60.0 percent (3-5) from beyond the arc.
  • The maroon and gold have now lost twelve of their last thirteen games.

D'YOUVILLE NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Six Saints logged double-digit minutes in the contest. 
  • Anna Jankovic led D'Youville with 28 points. Teammates Sofie Fuglsang (24 points) and Aliviya Vallone Russell (13 points) also scored in double figures.
  • Jankovic also led D'Youville with six assists on the day.
  • Anna Jankovic went 11-for-18 from the floor, 4-of-6 from long range and 2-of-2 from the foul line, with Fuglsang hitting 8 of her 17 field goal attempts and 6-of-8 shots from beyond the arc.
  • Jankovic also grabbed a game-high 19 boards for the Saints.
  • D'Youville picked up six steals, with the Spartans turning the ball over on 16 separate occasions.
  • D'Youville had its largest lead of the game (seven points) with just under 30 seconds to play in double overtime, 81-74, on a Morgan Giancaterino free throw.
  • Sofie Fuglsang and Anna Jankovic led all Saints scorers at the half with five points apiece.
  • D'Youville's best shooting quarter came in the third frame, with the Saints shooting 60.0 percent (9-15) from the field, 60.0 percent (6-10) from three and 100.0 percent (1-1) from the charity stripe.
