St. Thomas Aquinas had to wait for the decision makers on the NCAA D2 Women's Basketball East Region Selection Committee to call their name, after they fell short in their quest to win the ECC Women's Hoops Tournament Championship, as the Spartans suffered a 66-51 defeat at the hands of Daemen University on Sunday afternoon. Eight bids were awarded in the region with champions from the ECC (Daemen), Northeast-10 (Bentley), and Central Atlantic (Dominican) capturing automatic bids and the others issued on an at-large basis.

The Spartans (21-8, 12-4 ECC) and Penmen (21-7, 15-5 NE10) matched up against each other once during the 2022-23 regular season, with SNHU defeating STAC, 71-65 at Aquinas Hall on December 29, 2022. The squads have faced each other just four times in history of both programs. SNHU currently holds a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series matchups.

Last Meeting: December 29, 2022 - STAC 71/SNHU 65
