St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball players Melissa Sadler and Ruth Adams were named the East Coast Conference Player and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively on Monday, following the Spartans 2-0 week on the hardwood, which included home victories over the University of New Haven and Molloy College.
Sadler averaged 20.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game against the Chargers (W, 60-41) on Wednesday evening and the Lions (W, 72-64) on Saturday afternoon. The senior forward from Milton, NY shot 61.3 percent (19-for-31) from the field and 100.0 percent (2-for-2) from the foul line. In addition, Melissa picked up 3 assists, 2 steals and a block.
Adams, the senior guard from San Diego, CA averaged 12.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in the same 2 contests. Ruth shot 53.0% (10-for-19) from the field, 67.0% from three (2-for-3) and 75.0% (3-for-4) from the free throw line, while also picking up 6 assists, 9 steals and 4 blocked shots. She also helped the Spartan defense hold their opponents to an average of 52.5 points per game.
The 12-3 (4-0 ECC) Spartans return to ECC action this Wednesday, January 15, traveling to face defending ECC champ NYIT in a 5:00 pm start. They return to Aquinas Hall to host Queens College on Saturday, January 18, with double-header action tipping off at 1:00 pm.
