Staten Island, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Track & Field program squared off with ten other conference members in the annual East Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island Sunday. On the day, the men's squad took a third place finish, while the women's team finished tenth.
In addition, at the championships the ECC announced its All-Conference team selections. Spartans Darwin Almonte (200M - 1st TM, 60M Hurdles - 1st TM), Justus Behne (200M - 1st TM, 60M Hurdles - 1st TM, High Jump - 1st TM), Ronaldo Rodriguez Perez (800M - 1st TM), Kim Wingren (High Jump - 1st TM, Triple Jump - 2nd TM), Francisco Stratico (Long Jump - 1st TM, Triple Jump - 1st TM), Gavin Kopf (Weight Throw - 1st TM), Jude Petersen (60M Hurdles - 2nd TM), Pedro Mulero Martinez (DMR - 2nd TM), Aaron Cruz (DMR - 2nd TM), Colin Graham (DMR - 2nd TM), William Whitton (DMR - 2nd TM), Egill Atlason Waagfjoro (Long Jump - 2nd TM, Triple Jump - 2nd TM), Brian Appiah (Triple Jump - 2nd TM), Ryan Folmer (Triple Jump - 2nd TM), Sheamus Gallagher (Shot Put - 2nd TM), Madison Chalfin (Mile - 1st TM, 800M - 2nd TM) and Victoria Maher (Weight Throw - 1st TM) were all recognized for their extrodinary efforts in the conference title meet.
STAC will now send select members of the squad to compete in the FastTrack Last Chance Invitational on Friday, February 20 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island. This event will give prospective NCAA Division II Championship participants a chance to showcase their talents and improve their marks before the Indoor Track and Field Selection Committee meets to announce the field for the National Championships on March 13 & 14 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
