Spartan Track Have Success On Spring Trip Invitationals

This past week the Spartans and Lady Spartans traveled to South Florida for Spring Break.  During the Spring Break week the Spartans and Lady Spartans competed at the Nova Shark Invitational hosted by Nova Southeastern and Hurricane Invitational hosted by University of Miami.

At the Nova Shark Invitational St. Jacob Diodonet won the 200 and 400 in the meet after competing in the National Championships the week prior in Kansas.  In the 400 he ran 47.85 to win this event while running 21.77 in the 200. Aidan Russell took 2nd in the 800 meters in a time of 4:10.24.  Frankie Schiavone took 2nd place in the 400 hurdles in a time of 57.80.   Ian Mirtile won the Steeplechase in a time of 10:35.27.  Rickssen Opont took 2nd in the Shot Put and the Discus. 
 
On the Women's side Camille Cameron took second in the 200 with a time of 25.88 and 3rd in the 400 with in a time of 59.54.  Christina Maretzo took 3rd place in the 800 with a time of 2:26.63 and 6th in the 1500 in a time of 5:08.27.  Molly Conner won the 100 hurdles in a time of 16.43 and 2nd in the 400 hurdles.  Rachel Spagnola won the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:07.74.  Rebecca Macleod won the Steeplechase in a time of 12:05.39. Katie Mollahan took a 2nd place finish in the shot put with a throw of 11.06m and a 2nd place finish in the discus with a throw of 29.24m.

At the Hurricane Invitational the Spartans competed against some of the top Division I and II competition that included UM, Virginia,Notre Dame,BU and others.  St. Jacob Diodonet provisionally qualified and hit a new school record in the 200 with a time of 21.30 and ran 48.02 in the 400.  Saint took 5th place in the 200 and took 4th place in the 400 with the stacked fields. 
 
In the 800 Frankie Schiavone, Ian Mirtile, and Aidan Russell all ran 1:58 to take 4th-6th in the event. Robbie Guidicipietro took 3rd place in the 1500 with a time of 4:07.73. The Spartans 4x100 team of Jaren Scott, St. Jacob Diodonet, Malyk Michel and Dante Brown broke the school record in a time of 42.19. 
 
On the Women's side Rebecca Macleod ran 2:22.99 in the 800 to take a 5th place finish. Rachel Spagnola took a 6th place finish with a new school record time in the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:05.48.
