Strong Performances by Spartans Highlight 2nd Annual Spartan Regional Invitation

The St. Thomas Aquinas College track & field team hosted the Spartan Regional Invite for the second year in on row, on Friday afternoon.  In a field of Division I, II, and III teams competing; the men's team finished 4th overall (2nd overall DII,DIII) out of 18 teams and the women's team finished in 7th overall (5th overall DII,DIII).

On the women's side, Camille Cameron took 3rd overall (2nd DII,III) in the 60 meters with a time of 6.90 and 8th in the 400 with a time 1:01.26.  Kristen Borriello in her first competition since last Spring was the overall winner in the 1000 with a time of 3:07.06.  Borriello also anchored the DMR team in the mile. 

Aida Torpey took 4th overall (2nd among DII,DIII) in the mile with a time of 5:27.13, her best time of the year in the mile.  Victoria Jones-Alleyne took 2nd overall (1st among Division II, DIII) in the 60 hurdles by running 8.82.  Jones-Alleyne also hit a new Lady Spartan Record in the Triple Jump by jumping 11.00m (36'1.25) and finished 6th overall (5th among DII,DIII), and is currently ranked 19th overall in the country.

The DMR team of Aida Torpey, Amberr Lubaszka, Jumana Khatib, and Kristen Borriello took 2nd overall (1st among DII,DIII) by running 13:16.43.

On the men's side, Winslow Dorsainvil won the Spartan Regional Invite 60 for the second year in a row by running 6.91.  Dorsainvil is currently ranked number two in Division II in the 60.  Saint Jacob-Diodonet finished 2nd overall in the 200 with a 22.06 time and was the overall winner for the second straight year the 400 with a time of 48.45.  Jacob-Diodonet is currently ranked 7th in the country in the 400. 

Dylan Bestler was the overall winner in the 500 at the Spartan Regional Invite by running 1:06.78 while also running the 800 leg of the DMR team. Tristan Holmgren finished 4th overall (tied 3rd DII,III) in the high jump by jumping 1.88m ((6'2).  Elias Guardado took 7th overall (6th Div II,III) with a jump of 6.25m (20'6.25) and then broke the school record in the triple jump by jumping 13.14m (43'1.5). 

Rickssen Opont took 6th overall (3rd DII,DIII) in the shot by throwing 14.11m (46'3.5).  The 4x400 team of Mich Philistin, Frankie Schiavone, Lugduni Desrosiers and Saint Jacob Diodonet took 4th overall in the 4x400 by running a time of 3:26.13. 

The Spartan Regional Invite had a total of fifteen Division II provisional qualifiers with the performance they had at the meet.  The Spartans and Lady Spartans compete next Friday at the Gotham Cup.
