The St. Thomas Aquinas Track & Field program competed for the ECC Championship at the Ocean Breeze Facility in Staten Island. The Men's team finished in 2nd place, scoring 145 points while the women finished 3rd, scoring 94 points. For both squads, this was the most points they ever scored at the ECC Championships.
For the men, Winslow Dorsainvil won the 60 meters in a time of 6.86. This was the 4th consecutive year he has won this event and is currently ranked 7th in the country. St. Jacob Diodonet took 3rd place in the 60 meters and came back to run the 400 and 200 where he won both events in times of 48.32 and 21.85. He is currently ranked 6th in Division II with a time of 47.38. Lugduni Desrosiers and Winslow Dorsainvil took 3rd and 4th in the 200 with times of 22.69 and 22.77. Desrosiers also finished 2nd in the 400 with a time of 50.96. Ricardo Reid was 4th in the 400 in a time of 51.13 and Frankie Schiavone earned a 6th place point with a time of 51.43. In the 500, Dylan Bestler and Mich Philistin took 3rd and 4th clocking times of 1:06.57 and 1:07.49 respectively. Ryan Gasser ended his career in the 1000 with a personal best and 3rd place finish in a time of 2:34.44. Robbie Guidicipietro opened up his Spartan career by taking a 5th place finish in the 1000 in a time of 2:40.22 and a 3rd place finish in the Men's mile in a time of 4:27.91. Vinny Vazquez took a 4th place finish in the 3000 in a time of 9:18.65 and a 5th place finish in the 5000 with a time of 16:12.98. The Men's 4x400 team of Bestler, Philistin, Desrosiers, and Diodonet took 1st place with a new meet record time of 3:20.78. The DMR team of Joe Lipari, Campbell Zicchino, Duncan Kasiblante, and Austin Labbe took 4th place in the DMR with a time of 11:10.50. Tristan Holmgren took his second title in a row in the High Jump by jumping 1.93m (6'4). Frankie Schiavone took a 4th place in the Pole Vault by jumping 3.35m (10'11.75). In the Men's Long Jump Elias Guardado took 1st place with a jump of 6.42m (21'0.75) and Keondre Morris took 3rd place with a jump of 6.36m (20"10.5). Elias Gurdado took a 4th place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 12.92m (42"4.75) and Mohammed Ifthikar finished in 6th place with a jump of 12.83m (42"1.25). In the Men's Shot Put Rickssen Opont finished 3rd with a throw of 14.09m(46"2.75) and Tim Faranda took a 6th place finish with a throw of 12.25m (40"2.25).
For the women, Victoria Jones-Alleyne took 1st place finishes in the 60 hurdles by running 8.66 which is a new school record and 23rd fastest time in Division II as well. Jones-Alleyne then won the triple jump with a new school record jump of 11.66m (38"3.25) and is the 42nd ranked jump in the country. Victoria also won the Long Jump with a jump of 5.22m (17"1.5) and took 3rd in the 200 with a time of 25.68. Kristen Borriello won the 1000 meters with a new college best of 3:01.73 and took 4th place in the mile with a run of 5:21.35. Camille Cameron took 2nd place in the 60 meters in a time of 7.76 and 2nd place in the 200 with a run of 25.30. Amber Lubaszka took 3rd place in the 500 with a time of 1:20.03 a new personal best. Katherine Mollahan earned a 3rd place finish in the Shot Put by throwing 11.77m (38"7.5). Aida Torpey finished 5th place in the 5000 with a time of 19:05.55 and a in 6th place in the 3000 with a time of 11:05.85. Desiree Bermudez took 6th place in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.85. The Women's 4x400 of Rebecca Macleod, Lubaszka, Borriello and Cameron ran a season best of 4:05.62 taking 4th place in the event. Molly Conner was 4th in the Long Jump with a leap of 4.69 (15"4.75) and 5th place in the Triple Jump by jumping 10.47m (34"4.75). Breanna Lyn took 6th place in the triple jump by jumping 10.45m (34"3.5).
A few of the Spartans will be competing at the Last Chance Meet at BU on Sunday to prepare for Division II Nationals on 3/9/2017-3/11/2017. The next team meet will be at Nova Southeastern and University of Miami during the Spring Break period.
