The Spartans opened up the Outdoor Track & Field season in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As the temperature rose up to 90 degrees the Spartans turned up the heat with some fast times to start off the outdoor season.
On the men's side Winslow Dorsainvil and Saint-Jacob Diodonet took 1 and 2 in the 100m with times of 10.86 and 11.02 respectively. Diodonet also won the 200m in a time of 22.01. In the 4x100 the team of Frankie Schiavone, Diodonet, Ricardo Reid and Dorsainvil took 2nd in a time of 42.89. Ryan Gasser also ran a new personal record in the 800 by running a 2:02.38.
On the ladies side Kristen Borriello had a very impressive day by winning the 1500 in a time of 4:50.29 and winning the 800 in a time of 2:23.17. Meaghan Ventarola also had a great day running 4:59.42 and 2:28.12. Patricia Nersten hit a new personal best in the 1500 with a time of 5:06.62. Kelsey Barnes also hit a personal best in the shot put today by throwing 10.65 meters.
The Spartan's will next compete on Friday and Saturday at the Hurricane Invitational at the University of Miami.
