The St. Thomas Aquinas Track & Field program performed well at the ECC Championships with both teams finishing 3rd overall. Gabriela Sloezen and Cecelia Pfleging each took 1st place in their respective events. These two seniors along with Rebecca Fortoul, Meaghan Vetarola and Megan Jaskot have taken the women's program to new heights in their four year tenure. They lead the women's cross country team to the National Championships and have helped the Track team to their top conference finish inprogram history.
Sloezen earned a 1st place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.43. In the same race,r race sophomore Kristen Borriello took 2nd place with a time of 2:20.02 and junior Patricia Nersten took 3rd in the 800 with a time of 2:21.04. In the 1500 meters Borriello took 2nd place with a time of 4:44.20. Junior Katie O'Grady took 5th place in the 5000 meters in a time of 19:45.39 and took 2nd in the 10,000 meters in a time of 40:54.17. Freshman Molly Conner took 6th place in the 100 hurdles in a time of 16.63. Ventarola finished 4th in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:11.85. Pfleging took 1st place in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 11:59.05.
The women's 4x100 team of Terisha Theodore, Laura Gerraputa, Tiana Kirkland and Sloezen took 3rd place in the 4x100 with a time of 49.68. The 4x400 team of Amber Lubaszka, Kirkland, Gerraputa, and Angelica Matwiejczuk finished in 5th place in a time of 4:19.60. The 4x800 team of Sloezen, Borriello, Ventarola and Nersten took first place in the 4x800 with a time of 9:51.59.
In the field events, Gerraputa took 6th place in the long jump with a jump of 4.79m (15'8.75). Breanna Lyn and Conner took 4th and 5th in the triple jump. Katie Mollahan took 1st place in the Shot Put with a throw of 10.89m (35'8.75) and Kelsey Barnes took 5th in the shot put with a throw of 9.45m (31'0). In the Discus Kelsey Barnes took 3rd place in the event with a throw of 28.92m (94'10).
On the Men's side Winslow Dorsainvil won the 100 meters in a time of 10.68. Saint-Jacob Diodonet took 1st place in a new ECC Record in the 400 with a time of 48.99 and took 2nd place in the 200 in a time of 22.06. In the 800, Ryan Gasser took 6th place with a time of 2:02 Jamer Linares took a 3rd place finish with a personal record in the 10,000 meters in a time of 35:15.36. Dylan Bestler won the 400 hurdles race in a time of 57.75 and Frankie Schiavone took 4th place in the 400 hurdles with a time of 60.03.
The 4x100 team of Travis Abelard, Dorsainvil, Ricardo Reid, and Diodnonet took 1st place in the 4x100 with a new meet record time of 42.92. The 4x400 team of Ricardo Reid, Dylan Bestler, Frankie Schiavone and Travis Volpe took 3rd overall in the 4x400 with a time of 3:34.96. The 4x800 team of Ryan Gasser, Joe Lipari, Vinny Vazquez and Dylan Bestler won the 4x800 relay in a time of 8:17.82. Frankie Schiavone took 2nd place in the Pole Vault with a jump of 3.20m (10'6). Justin Brown took 5th place in the Long Jump with a jump of 6,18m (20'3.5) and Travis Volpe took 6th place in the event with a jump of 6.03 m (19'9.5). In the triple jump, Justin Brown took 2nd place finish in the event with a jump of 12.61 (41'4.5) and Elias Guardado took 5th with a jump of 12.26 (40'2.75).
The season has ended for the majority of the Spartans but select members will partcipate in the prestigous Penn Relays on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week.
