The St. Thomas Aquinas Track & Field program competed at the Molloy College Invitational after a two week hiatus. Senior Mike Abelard ran the 200 meters and won the event with a time of 22.67 as well as taking 2nd in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.90. Freshman Meagan Jaskot took 3rd in the mile with a time of 5:33.61.
Junior George Erazo took 2nd in the 400m with a time of 49.14
(48.37cf) which moved him up to 18th in the country with one week
to go before the national selection process begins. Junior
Matt Buell and senior Garvenchy Nicolas took 3rd and 4th
respectively in the mile in times of 4:38.08 and 4:38.17.
Sophomore Ed Oswald also had a great day where he high jumped 6-0
and took 2nd overall. Classmate Joe Chegwidden took 5th overall in
the 800m in a time of 2:00.46. The 4x400 team of Erazo, Nicolas,
Mike Kraus, and Frankie Colon took 1st with a time of
3:31.60. The 4x800 team of Alex Castellanos, Chegwidden, Mike
Galonski, and Buell took 2nd overall in a time of 8:40.64.
On the women's side freshman Gabriela Sloezen took 4th overall in
the 400 with a new personal best of 1:01.22. Junior Keeley
Bateman took 5th overall in the 800 with a time of
2:26.15.
The Spartan's will next compete in the ECC Championships on Saturday at St. Anthony's High School starting at 9 A.M.
