In today's NCAA Regional Poll, the St. Thomas Aquinas Men's Track team climbed up two spots in the East Region to number 7. Mike Abelard and George Erazo still hold spots in the national ranking in their events while the men are represented in 7 events in the regional rankings. The Lady Spartans are ranked 15th in the region.
Ablelard is currently ranked 25th in the nation and 4th in the region in the 200m with a time of 22:14. He is also ranked 3rd in the East in the 60m with a time of 7.01. Erazo holds 32 plave in the nation and 5th in the region in the 400m after clocking a time of 49:05. Freshman Alex Andre broke into 8th place in the regional rankings in the 800m (1:56.86). The 4x400 team consisting of Abelard, Erazo, Rich Ricca and Frankie Colon holds 3rd place in the region while the DMR team of Andre, Erazo, Garvenchy Nicolas and Matt Buell is in 6th. In the Triple Jump, Frankie Colon sits in 5th place with a jump of 42-6. The men's squad is currently ranked 75th in the country which is five spots better than last week's poll.
On the women's side, Keeley Bateman is leading the way with a 7th place ranking in the 800m in a time of 2:20.82. Bateman, Kaitlin Mancini, Catherine Sandkuhl and Chelsea Klinger make up the DMR team that is in 6th place in the East Region.
A few members of the Track & Field squad will be competing in the New Balance Collegiate Games this weekend, while the rest of the team will be preparing for the CTC Championships in Middleton,Connecticut two weeks from now.
