The St. Thomas Aquinas Track & Field squad jumped out to a fast start at the Dr. Jack M Toms Invitational in Lynchburg, Va. Sophomore Geroge Erazo broke the STAC record in the 400m while four other Spartans ran personal bests.
Erazo's 48:11 surpassed the Spartan record set by Chris Muniz in 2010 and earned a first place finish. He ran two other personal bests with an 11.09 in the 100m (3rd place) and a 22:48 in the 200m (4th place). Junior Mike Abelard took second overall in the 200m with a time of 22.32. Classmate Garvenchy Nicolas also hit a new personal best in the 800m with a time of 1:56.42 which took 4th overall in the meet. Sophomore Mike Kraus ran a new personal record in the 800m with a time of 1:58.93. The men finished 11th overall out of 21 teams to score in the meet.
On the women's side sophomore Keeley Bateman took 4th overall in the 800m with a time of 2:20.92. Freshman Catherine Sandkuhl took 7th overall in the meet with a time of 2:26.48.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday at the Monmouth Season Opener at Monmouth University.
