St. Thomas Aquinas track and field runners Mike Abelard and Michael Galonski were named to the 1st Team All East Region. Abelard ran the 200 meters in a time of 21.73 which ranked him 3rd in the East Region and 72nd in the Country in Division II. Galonski was ranked 5th in East Region in a time of 10:03.12 for the steeplechase.
The Spartan men's track and field team finished 10th overall in the East Region this Spring. Abelard was regionally ranked in the 100, running a time of 10.94 (6th in the region) and 21.73 (3rd in the region). Freshman George Erazo, ran the 400 in a time of 49.24 (11th in the region) and 57.53 (13th in the region) in the 400 intermediate hurdles. Galonski ran the steeplechase in 10:03.12 (5th in the region). Other notables were Rich Ricca 13th in the region in the 100 meter dash, and Modafferi 11th in the region in the 800. The 4 x 400 meter relay of Abelard, Erazo, Frankie Colon and Vinny Modafferi were 4th in the region; missing 1st team All Region Honors by one place.
The Spartan Relay teams also had much success this year placing high in East Region with schools such as; UMass Lowell, Southern Connecticut State, and American International. The men's 4x100 team of Erazo, Abelard, Colon, and Ricca ran a time of 43.33 placing them 6th in the region overall. The men's 4x400 team of Erazo, Abelard, Colon and Modafferri took 4th in the region with a new school record of 3:20.61 (Penn Relays).
