The Spartan men and women ended the successful 2009-2010 indoor track and field season upstate at Cornell's Barton Hall. Senior Einar Brissing had a phenomenal performance in the 1000-meter run in which he broke the Saint Thomas Aquinas school record finishing in 2:35.01. Brissing put himself in a bad spot in the beginning of the race by getting boxed in, but that didn't stop him from sprinting it in to clock a new school record. Junior Vinny Modaferri also competed with Brissing and clocked a time of 2:49.08 respectively.
Senior, and DII National Qualifier, Chris Muniz raced comfortably in the 400-meter dash and clocked a time of 51.56, which placed him 8th out of 38 runners. The 60-meter dash had a total of four Spartans with freshman Mike Abelard leading the Spartans as he clocked a blistering time of 7.17 seconds, placing him 5th out of 42 competitors. Freshman Rich Ricca clocked a 7.27 and junior John Cirolia came in close behind with a time of 7.49. Sophomore thrower Trevor Milazzo also competed in the 60-meter dash for the first time and ran 8.34 seconds.
On the women's side, freshman Kelsey Scardera, competed in the 60m dash and clocked a time of 9.38 seconds. Sophomores Sarah Callagy and Lisa Brevogel both competed in the mile with Callagy clocking a time of 5:40.38, seconds off her lifetime best. Brevogel finished with a time of 6:24.56. The Spartans also doubled up in the 800-meter dash with sophomores Julia Karl and Chelsea Klinger. Karl clocked a time of 2:38.30, while Klinger clocked a time of 2:41.47 respectively. The distance Spartans closed the day with a 4x400-meter relay and ran a time of 4:45.05. Senior Jeanette Gibson also had a solid day in the throwing circle as she threw her way into 10th place with a toss of 10.80 meters.
The Spartans will now prepare for the outdoor season which will begin with the Richard Stockton Invitational in Pomona, NJ on March 20th.
