The Spartans 4 by 400 team of Mike Abelard, Chris Muniz, Einar Brissing and Vinny Modafferi competed this past weekend at Penn Relays where they finished 59th out of 81 Schools in the College Heat Section.
The Spartans were placed in the 9th section where Mike Abelard led the race off and held his own on the first leg. Chris Muniz received the baton from Abelard and took control of the race where he put the team into first place in the section. Muniz handed the baton off to Einar Brissing who ran a very tough leg in which he put Modafferi in position to win the race. The excitement of the race came when Modafferi got the baton from Brissing, Modafferi recieved the baton in third place within 100 meters Modafferi past the second place runner. With 100 meters to go in the race Modafferi surged past St. Paul College to take the win in the heat. The Spartans ended up with a time of 3:24.92 which was their best time for the outdoor season.
