St. Thomas Aquinas College's Sofia Marella and Lauren Falk were each selected for the East Coast Conference's final weekly softball awards of the regular season on Monday, following the Spartans 4-0 week on the Diamond, with wins against both Queens College and the College of Staten Island.
Marella was tabbed as the Player of the Week, while Falk took home Pitcher of the Week honors.
Marella (Cranston, R.I.) batted an impressive .545 (6-for-11) with a triple, two homers, six RBI and four runs scored to lead STAC to a 4-0 record in the week to extend the team's win streak to 15 games and clinch the ECC Regular Season title.
Falk (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) tossed a 9-0 shutout against CSI and a 9-1 win against Queens. The sophomore righthander compiled an ERA of 0.70 in the week. Her 9-1 victory over the Knights clinched the program's fifth straight ECC Regular Season Championship.
No. 1 STAC (30-12) opens the ECC Tournament, hosting No. 4 Staten Island on Thursday, May 7 at Spartan Field. First pitch between the Spartans and Dolphins is scheduled for noon in Sparkill.
