Abbie Landrum and Carissa Della Vecchia Earn ECC Softball Weekly Awards

St. Thomas Aquinas College's Abbie Landrum and Carissa Della Vecchia were each selected for the East Coast Conference's Weekly Softball awards on Monday, as Landrum scored Player of the Week honors and Della Vecchia took home Pitcher of the Week accolades following the Spartans' 6-2 week on the diamond.

Landrum (Buena Park, Calif.) excelled both at the plate and in the circle last week. She posted a 2-2 record with an excellent earned run average of 0.75. She closed the week with a masterful one-hit shutout over the College of Staten Island. For the week, she yielded only 19 hits in 28 innings, while registering 21 strikeouts. At the plate, Landrum hit .368 with three doubles and two home runs while driving in five. She also worked six walks to register a .520 on-base percentage for the week. 

Della Vecchia (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) registered a 4-0 record in the week with two shutouts and an impressive 0.50 earned run average. She struck out 48 batters in 28 innings with just one walk. Her four wins included a 14-strikeout effort against Mercy College and 13 strikeouts in wins over D'Youville University and College of Staten Island. The lefty is currently ranked fifth nationally in NCAA Division II in strikeouts-per-seven-innings with 10.7.

STAC (24-15-1, 11-4-1 ECC) next travels to Molloy University on Tuesday (April 25) in ECC play that begins at 3 p.m. The teams will first resume the suspended game on April 4 that was stopped after eight innings due to darkness, with the score tied 1-1. The teams will then play a regularly scheduled doubleheader.
